                                                  Picture
Counterpoint is an adult chamber choir specialising in high quality a cappella (unaccompanied) choral music. Formed 23 years ago in Redcliffe, Counterpoint performs throughout the Brisbane northside and beyond. Under the musical direction of Lesley Brown the group has developed an eclectic repertoire ranging from Renaissance sacred classics to contemporary close-harmony jazz numbers. A foundation Group Member of the Moreton Bay Arts Council, the choir is also affiliated with the Australian National Choral Association (ANCA).

Counterpoint is always keen to hear from singers with good blending voices, a love of unaccompanied choral music, and an ability to sing in tune and hold a vocal part. Please call Lesley or Ian Brown on 3284 3688 for additional information or to arrange for an audition, and visit our website at

Counterpoint Vocal Ensemble is a group member of MBAC, and is conducted by Lesley Brown. Highlights of the concert at the Chapel, Grace Lutheran College (Rothwell) will be Benjamin Britten’s setting of W H Auden’s intriguing poem Hymn to St Cecilia, the martyred Patron Saint of Musicians. St Cecilia’s day is traditionally celebrated on 22nd November, between the dates of the Rothwell concert and a repeat performance at the Tarragindi Uniting Church on the following Saturday evening (phone 3284 3688 for details). In ‘counterpoint’ to this 20th Century piece, the program also includes the C16 Cantantibus Organis Caecilia Virgo of Orlando di Lasso, again in honour of St Cecilia, and again sung a cappella (without instrumental accompaniment).       The concert celebrates music and its component elements of melody, harmony and rhythm, and in keeping with this theme Counterpoint will perform various shorter pieces including Bob Chilcott’s A Little Jazz Mass (featuring the Peninsula’s own esteemed jazz musicians David Judd on keyboard and Hayley Sawtell on drums), as well as old favourites like A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square.

A truly exciting and varied programme of beautiful music, to be followed by refreshments in the Chapel foyer. Hope you can come along!
